Manchester Library closures – Consultation

Received at Cranswick Square:

Have your say about libraries in Manchester
The City Council needs to find £109m of savings this year, rising to £170m next year and the library service is considering its contribution.
We are proposing the closure of three small libraries. We have identified libraries where there are new libraries nearby or there is potential for other options.
We need to look at the viability of the mobile library service in the light of recent investment in library buildings, including the provision of new community libraries, and our improved online offer.
We also need to consider a reduction in our opening hours citywide. Reducing hours helps minimise permanent closures; it spreads the impact of savings more evenly, and such decisions can be reversed when more funding is available.
There are a number of alternative ways we could provide library services and we want to hear your views.
Visit www.manchester.gov.uk/libraryconsultation for more information and please take a few moments to fill in our online questionnaire.
