Looking for a Greener Summer?
15 & 16 year olds from Manchester and Salford are being offered the chance to take part in Eco Challenge Xtra, an exciting new programme being delivered by the Field Studies Council (FSC) and Manchester Youth Volunteering Project (MYVP) this summer. Eco Challenge Xtra is a National Citizen Service (NCS) programme and is one of 12 pilots being run across England in summer 2011.
Getting involved in Eco Challenge Xtra offers young people three weeks of exciting new challenges and experiences. The three week programme includes two residential stays, the first at the FSC Centre Castlehead in the Lake District, trying out a wide range of outdoor action activities including abseiling, gill scrambling, night camp, raft building etc. The second week, at Casttleton in the Peak District, will focus on the local community, exploring green issues and learning useful skills such as First Aid.
During the third part of the programme you’ll be back home in Manchester & Salford and you’ll plan and work together on a green project of your choice.
The program asks for a contribution of up to £45 towards the residential costs, but if you can’t afford that then let us know – we do have some free places available.
To be a part of this exciting scheme and find out more information register at www.eco-challenge-xtra.org, email lance@myvp.org.uk or telephone 0161 236 3334
